EMTAK — Estonian classification of economic activities

A five-digit code describing a company's primary activity. Based on the EU's NACE classification.

EMTAK (Estonian classification of economic activities) is a five-digit numeric code that classifies companies by their primary line of business. It is based on the EU NACE classification, which makes Estonian economic statistics comparable across the EU.

The code is hierarchical: the first letter (A–U) marks the section (e.g. C = manufacturing, J = information & communication, K = financial services). The digits that follow progressively narrow the activity. For example, 62.01 — "Computer programming" — falls under section J.

A company assigns its EMTAK code when registering with the Business Register and updates it in its annual report. A company may operate in several fields, but the register always lists a single primary activity.

On firmaotsing.ee we use EMTAK mainly to group companies by sector — see the industry index or the Top 100 list for a given section.
